When it comes to finding the best skin care products for sensitive skin, brands like Pai Skincare are making more and more roadways into this very niche market. This skin care company was founded by Sarah Brown, a former PR manager turned skin care expert. Sarah decided to start Pai Skincare because she has sensitive skin and struggled with serious skin issues during her 20’s. In 2004, Sarah quit her job and spent several years training in the various aspects of skin care and cosmetics. Today, Pai Skincare manufactures its products in West London and sells the skin care line through a number of outlets all over the world.

How Pai Skincare Works

The idea behind Pai Skincare was to create products for sensitive skin by avoiding harmful or irritating skin care ingredients. This is unfortunately the reality of today’s skin product industry, as items are routinely enhanced with artificial scents and coloring, to make the products look more enticing.

Further, some companies use artificial scents in their products as a way to create and reinforce habit loops in the consumer’s mind. The customer simply becomes used to the “reward” of smelling something nice when using a skin care product, thereby making it more likely that they’ll use it again (which in turn leads to more sales in the future).

Pai Skincare, however, was created to have as few irritating ingredients as possible. The company has even created specialty skin care products for sufferers of eczema and psoriasis.

Pai Skincare Ingredients

Before using Pai Skincare products (or any other product, for that matter), it’s imperative to understand which ingredients the specific item includes. Your dermatologist can help you make the best assessment, to account for your unique medical history and other special factors.

  • Copaiba Deep Cleanse AHA Mask:  This face mask was designed to be used up to two times per week, as a way to exfoliate and cleanse the skin. This Pai Skincare mask has ingredients like lactic and citric acids to exfoliate the skin (these are the alpha hydroxy acids in the “AHA” part of the product name). Additionally, this face mask contains ingredients like glycerin, to moisturize; vitamin E, to repair skin damage; copaiba fruit extract, to heal the skin and provide it with a number of Omega fatty acids for regeneration; and acai oil extract, to further reduction of skin damage. The cost of this Pai Skincare mask is $60 for 2.5 ounces.
  • Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser:  This Pai Skincare cleanser was formulated to cleanse the skin while reducing irritation. Many skin cleansers can cause irritation due to harsh surfactants and acids included in the formulation. To make a gentler cleanser, Pai Skincare formulated this product with camellia oil, to soothe irritated skin. Further, this oil contains chemicals like vitamins A, to boost cell turnover; vitamin B, to moisturize; and vitamins C and E, to repair skin damage. Additionally, this Pai Skincare cleanser contains ingredients like castor oil, to moisturize; damask rose otto oil, to boost the skin’s moisture barrier; sweet almond oil, for added hydration; and shea butter, to further fortify the natural barrier. This cleanser currently costs $75 for 6.8 ounces.
  • Chamomile and Rosehip Calming Day Cream:  This Pai Skincare face cream has a variety of ingredients that are meant to calm and soothe irritated skin. However, the cornerstone chemicals in this formulation seem to be Omega fatty acids. These can play a big role in the skin’s ability to retain moisture, and may even play a role in boosting collagen production inside the skin. The cost of this Pai Skincare face cream is $60 for 1.7 ounces.
  • Avocado and Jojoba Hydrating Day Cream:  As with most Pai Skincare products, this face cream is formulated with many natural ingredients, and lacks common irritants like drying alcohols or fragrance. Some of the ingredients in this face cream formulation include avocado oil, to moisturize the skin and repair it with antioxidants; jojoba oil, to hydrate; glycerin, to boost the skin’s natural protective barrier; and a number of other botanical oils and extracts. The cost of this Pai Skincare face cream is $55 for 1.7 ounces.

Pai Skincare Reviews

The reviews for Pai Skincare products tend to be largely positive. However, some consumers seem to have experienced problems related to breakouts. This could be due to ingredients and oils blocking pores, or the consumer may have experienced an allergic reaction and interpreted it as acne.

It’s very important to note that although Pai Skincare claims to use only natural ingredients in its skin care products, it is still possible to experience an allergic reaction. Many individuals have botanical allergies, and some may be sensitive to nut extracts within the formulations. Thus, side effects are possible.

Also, some reviews suggested issues with the packaging and receiving poor quality products, though these issues may have been caused by unauthorized retailers of Pai Skincare products.
