Physicians Formula: Company Overview

Physicians Formula is a specialty makeup and skin care company that has built its branding model around claims of manufacturing products without allergens or other chemicals that can irritate the skin. Founded in 1937 by Dr. Frank Crandall, the company has grown from a small operation to a major manufacturer, with products being distributed in countries throughout the world, including the United States, France, El Salvador, and Belgium, among others. The growth of the brand eventually led to the company becoming large enough for a public stock offering, which it completed in 2006. However, although the company claims to manufacture products without many detrimental skin care ingredients, some Physicians Formula formulations may contain chemicals and oils that can clog pores and increase the frequency of acne breakouts. To learn more about the company’s line of products and how it can affect your skin, the consumer will benefit from reading Physicians Formula reviews and seeking the advice of a licensed dermatologist.

Physicians Formula Product Lines

Physicians Formula currently offers a large selection of products at its online store and physical retail outlets. Among the broader categories, the company organizes its product lineup into items for the face, lips, eyes, and general skin care items.

Additionally, Physicians Formula also sells specific ingredients and skin care goals. For example, the Argan Wear line centers around the benefits of argan oil for skin care, which include moisturizing and conditioning of the skin. The Mineral Wear line is formulated around minerals, and is touted as a product line for tightening and repairing the skin. The Organic Wear line is built around organic ingredients, and is said to be completely free of prabens, harsh chemicals and synthetic ingredients.

When browsing products on the Physicians Formula website, some consumers may find the inherent navigation somewhat frustrating due to lack of a clear layout. For example, clicking on the skin concern “Anti Aging” will take the consumer to a slightly different website called physiciansformulaskincare.com. This website is a sister site of Physicians Formula but does not allow the consumer to easily return to the main website, unless you click the “back” button in the browser.

Cost of Physicians Formula

Physicians Formula products are very competitively priced and can easily fit even into the most limited skin care budget. For example, its line of BB and CC creams includes products as low as $6.95 and no product exceeds $20. The concealers, tinted moisturizers, and bronzers also fall into this same price range, as do most of Physicians Formula’s other products.

However, at such low prices, it’s important to keep in mind that these products may not have the best skin care ingredients. For example, the Physicians Formula Gentle Cleansing Lotion doesn’t contain any of the ingredients more commonly associated with skin cleansing; like salicylic acid or glycolic acid.

Further, some Physicians Formula reviews suggest that although the company claims not to include known allergens into its formulations, some of the products may still be irritating on the skin due to the inclusion of alcohols and witch hazel.

Where to Buy Physicians Formula

Physicians Formula can be purchased at a variety of online and offline outlets around the world. The primary source for consumers who want to ensure the purchase of the best quality, non-expired products is the company’s own website. There, the consumer can browse through the entire product selection and read Physicians Formula reviews from others who have tried the products.

When reading Physicians Formula reviews, it is advisable to focus on the specific skin care concerns of the reviewer, their skin type, and whether the review sounds emotional. Further, looking for reviews on third party websites is an even better option in many situations, to ensure that reviews are unbiased, as some brands may be tempted to limit the amount of negative feedback showing up on their website.

In addition to purchasing Physicians Formula online, the products can be easily found at a number of physical distribution outlets, including Walmart, CVS, Target, Albertsons, and Kroger, among many others.

Physicians Formula Side Effects

Physicians Formula reviews by consumers cite a number of side effects that range from mild irritation, to clearly-visible redness. Although some consumers may experience these side effects, the skin reaction should subside after the product is discontinued. Further, the low price of the company’s products makes it easy for the consumers to try out the items without serious financial risk.

A more problematic issue with the company’s products, however, can be the possibility of some of the oils clogging pores, which can lead to longer-term acne breakout issues.

To minimize the possibility of Physicians Formula side effects or even skin damage, it’s a good idea to speak to your dermatologist before using the company’s products, and to conduct a patch test on an inconspicuous part of the skin.

I have only tried their makeup once, and I loved it! for once, it doesn’t look like I’m wearing makeup, and their foundations do not have a yellow pigment in them, so my face doesn’t look yellow. It looks completely natural.

Unless i cannot see it – the packaging is not readable with the plastic and grey/black type. Does not say how to use it. They should put an insert considering lots of people cannot read the fine print. Purchased today from Walmart it was on sale. Hope to see results, lots of dark patches.

I feel that Physicians Formula Potent Skin Care Kit is a great buy. You get Wrinkle Smoother & Firming Moisturizing Lotion, Ultra Wrinkle Smoother Day & Night Cream and Wrinkle Smoother Eye Cream. It costs $40 and last for 3 months.

  4. Olivia

I have used Physicians Formula products for at least 6 years. I use their skin care, make up and body creams. I cant afford any of your recommendations and the cheaper products I tried were disappointing.

  5. Megan

I didnt even know Physicians Formula made skin care products.
I was using their mineral make up range but found a better product that was only slightly more expensive.
I should try Physicians Formula skin care. They have it in Sam’s Club and Walmart.
