Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream

SKIN CARE REVIEWS

12.27.22DISCLAIMER

Anyone who has walked down the skin care aisle of a drug store is familiar with Olay. This multi-billion dollar brand produces hundreds of different beauty products, which can make it pretty daunting to choose a product to fit your specific needs. To help with this issue, below we are reviewing the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream.

This cream outperformed 10 competitors, even a prestige brand that costs $440, in the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab’s clinical and blinded consumer studies. Keep reading below to learn more about the formulation behind the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream and whether or not this product is right for you.

What is it?

The Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is an anti-aging moisturizing formula that is said to penetrate deep into the skin’s surface in order to improve texture and elasticity. Olay claims that users will be able to see visible wrinkle results starting on day one, and that over time their formula will regenerate surface cells to help “take years off your skin age”.

Who is it for?

The Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is for those in need of a hydrating moisturizer that will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is ideal if your skin is lacking hydration as there are multiple ingredients in this cream that help the skin to retain moisture.

However, the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream may not be right for you if you are searching for a daytime moisturizer to wear underneath makeup. According to multiple reviews on the Olay website, this cream does not absorb well into the skin and makes it very difficult to apply foundation afterwards. It seems as though Olay’s claim that this formula “penetrates deep into the skin’s surface” may not be accurate.

Formulation insight

Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is formulated with amino peptides that are said to penetrate deep into skin’s surface to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles fast. Peptides are chains of amino acids and the building blocks of skin cells. They are commonly used in anti-aging skin care products due to their ability to increase collagen production. Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies and it helps give your skin strength and firmness. As we age, collagen weakens and the body produces less collagen.

Additionally, environmental factors, like sun exposure and pollution create free radicals that cause collagen to degrade over time. The result? Lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Therefore, the amino peptides found in the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream help to minimize these signs of aging by increasing collagen production.

Another key ingredient in the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is niacinamide, the amide form of vitamin B3. Niacinamide exerts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging effects, as well as improves the skin barrier function. In fact, niacinamide is one of the most well-studied antioxidants for use in skin care because its small molecular weight enables it to easily penetrate the skin. A study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science determined that topical application of 5% niacinamide can stimulate collagen synthesis. As mentioned above, increasing collagen synthesis can help to reduce signs of aging.

The final key ingredient found in the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid has been called a “hydration miracle”, a “moisture magnet”, and even “the fountain of youth” by beauty and skincare experts.

Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG), which is a sugar molecule that can naturally be found throughout the body. It is most abundant in our skin, which accounts for 50% of the body’s total content of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a negatively charged molecule, which means it will attract positively charged sodium and potassium ions. In turn, the molecule will easily absorb and hold onto water.

Thus, hyaluronic acid plays an important role in regulating the water and electrolyte balance of tissues. In fact, hyaluronic acid is the key molecule involved in skin moisture since it is capable of holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Therefore, the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream aids your skin in attracting and holding onto water in order to prevent it from becoming dry and dehydrated.

How to use

After cleansing, smooth Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream evenly over your entire face and neck morning and night.

After wearing it all day, I rubbed my eyes and now cannot stop the stinging and burning. No facial cream should ever be that dangerous to eyes

Used as directed on medium brown African American skin for 2 weeks. Makes my skin completion look dull and lifeless. No change, Why?
