How to Choose the Best Eye Cream

If you have never chosen an eye cream before to treat puffiness, dark circles, or to lessen the appearance of blood vessels under the eyes, you will find that the brand and ingredient choices seem endless and you may wonder if choosing the best eye cream is even possible. With so many options available, this can seem like a daunting task; however, the more you understand your skin’s own individual type and how it reacts to different ingredients, choosing the best eye cream will be much easier. The best way to begin is by narrowing down your choices by not only your skin type, but by the issues you’re trying to treat. This is because the best eye cream isn’t necessarily the one that’s the most expensive or has the most fancy-sounding ingredients, but one that will have the most effective impact on the sensitive skin under and around your eyes without clogging pores and creating more problems.

What is the Best Eye Cream for Your Individual Skin Type?

Many skin care companies claim that they sell the best eye cream because their brand treats a number of issues such as puffiness, dark circles, and dryness that can contribute to premature aging. But not all eye creams are created equal, and oftentimes the marketing department of a skin care company will make the products sound much more amazing than they really are. Hey, just because the ingredients may treat a number of symptoms, that doesn’t mean that it’s the best eye cream for you. In fact, the best under eye cream for you is the one that treats specific symptoms and that contains ingredients that won’t irritate your skin. For example, if you are trying to treat wrinkles and dryness and have sensitive skin, the best eye cream will be one that contains a hydrating agent, collagen or hyaluronic acids, and one that contains no fragrance or preservatives. However, if you want to treat dark circles under the eyes, then you will need an eye cream with completely different ingredients.

Choosing the Best Eye Cream for Dark Circles Under Eyes

If you have dark circles under the eyes that are caused by a lack of sleep, certain foods, allergies, or if you have very light skin, then the best under eye cream to choose is one that contains caffeine as the active ingredient. When applied topically, this ingredient constricts the blood vessels that lie under the thin skin under the eye and reduce the visibility of dark circles. Another ingredient that you should look for in the best eye cream for dark circles is a brightening agent that can help you reduce the appearance of dark circles cosmetically.

The Best Eye Cream for Dark Blood Vessels

Dark circles under the eyes are also caused by inflamed capillaries under the thin skin of the eye, which makes the skin look darker than it really is. If you’re trying to treat this issue, then the best eye cream in this case will contain anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as chrysin, which is a natural element derived from honey. When the inflammation is eased, the dark circles will appear less prominent. If you have any honey or plant-based allergies, consult your dermatologist before using products that contain chrysin.

How to Find the Best Eye Cream for Eye Puffiness

Treating eye puffiness can be a challenge, as there many factors that cause it, from how much salt you eat to how much sleep you get. If you’re shopping for a cream to treat this puffiness, look for ingredients such as hydrating, non-greasy oils and those that soothe inflammation. However, with eye puffiness, even the best eye cream may not show significant results without accompanying dietary and sleep pattern changes.

If you’re looking for an unbiased review of eye creams, you’ve come to the right place. The Dermatology Review has reviewed hundreds of eye creams in our labs and we not only bring you candidate reviews, we bring you scientific data on which products work. Sadly, eye cream manufacturers make outlandish claims about what their products can do. Too often these claims are unsabstaniated. Companies go as far as promising to eradicate dark circles, bags, puffiness, crows feet, wrinkles. Forget about surgery. Forget about fillers. Forget about lasers. We will take care of all of your eye woes in one cream that you need to use twice a day and you will get looking 10 years younger. If this sounds too good to be true, you’re probably right. However, some eye creams can help some of these signs but you need to be realised about the results you can expect from a product. Over the counter eye creams have not nor do they need to be reviewed by the FDA, therefore the only judge in whether an eye cream works or not is you because often the eye cream manufacturers are using third party companies to make their eye creams for them.

Before you purchase an eye cream, make sure you read this full article. We will then use our proprietary method to rank the best eye creams for the specific concerns you have. After searching for eye cream reviews online we read far too many consumers has been ripped off. The most important thing is to make sure that the products have a money back guarantee, ask for this in writing and what the concessions are because often the return fees outweigh any refunds you might be entitled to.

When we talk about eye creams we refer to serums, lotions, creams and anything that can be found in a bottle. We aren’t interested in reviewing products at the physicians office because we do not believe in surgical procedures around the eyes given the close closeness to the eyes, the risks and the horror stores we have heard.

I am amazed that I am not the only person who suffers from dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles around my eyes. I have for a long while suffered with dark circles and now hyper pigmentation which have compounded my dark circle problem. I spoke to my dermatologist and he suggested for my skin care regiment Cerave. I started cerave eye repair cream and added their SPF 30 am and the moisturing night cream to my skin care regimen as well as the hydrating cleanser. After a few weeks I got fed up with the eye cream regiment and quit. And kept looking around for another product that will do the miracle. Then the chemist at CVS reminded me that it took 15 yard for my skin discoloration to appear and I cannot expect to find a miracle cream. I decided to go back to what the dermatologist recommended cerave. It has been just over two months and I have been using the eye repair cream morning and evening. And I am now beginning to see a noticeable change in the color under my eyes. It is still dark, but not black as before. And I can actually see where the hyper pigmentation starts and end and they are also appearing lighter. I was amazed that no one mentioned Crrave here given the positive reviews out there on this product on Amazon, Paula’s choice and other websites. I do not have the time or money to go chasing different products. I intend to stick with cerave for a year and then reevaluate.

ok so I feel like I have tried every eye cream on the plant and they only one that every “worked” for me was sk ii signature eye cream. it’s like so $$ I am 32 and my under eye is so dry and filled with fine lines. my makeup settles in them and I hate it. sk ii signature eye cream is the only one that helped. what I want to know is if there is anything out there that is similar to sk ii.

I have been searching for an eye cream that is not greasy or irritating…and I chose Made from Earth’s Chamomile eye Cream – and it is way better! It goes on and moisturizes my eye area so well. I have noticed a reduction in the lines and wrinkles around my eyes as well as a decrease in the puffiness in my under eye area.

I have been using La Prairie for 30 years. People are amazed when they find out how old I am. There was a short time in there that I didn’t use the product because I started to believe all the hype that Oil of Olay, Lancome Regenerist etc. are better or the same. I came to the conclusion that they are definatly not. La Prairie is very expensive, but I always had my husband give it to me for my birthday or Christmas, or I budgeted for it. I am so glad I did. My skin looks soooo much better when I use it. My favorite thing is the stress cream, the smell is divine. I love it. I was just coming on here because I was wondering if you truly need a separate cream for eyes, or if that is hype too. It’s time to reorder, and I was wanting to get more stress cream, but am totally out of eye cream…sometimes it’s hard to do both because of the cost. But again, honestly, if you can swing it, it’s THE best.

I used to use Clinique, but it stopped working after a while. After turning 40, I started to notice that I was getting crows feet around my eyes. Living in a very dry area, it didn’t seem to matter what type of moisturizer I used, my skin still remained extremely dry. I started using the Made from Earth Chamomile Eye Therapy on a daily basis and I see a major difference. It does not take much to provide an ample amount of moisture to my eye area. I started to notice that after using it for a couple of days that my skin was becoming much softer and younger looking. As a result of the product, the lines that I had around my eyes became less noticeable.

I wholeheartedly recommend Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Eye Cream. This product is wonderful if you wake up in the morning and have have dry eyes and need something rich. It is not greasy and absorbs. It does not cause breakouts. I tried many of the products recommend by Dr Oz, Allure Magazine and Consumer Reports but they are all no good.

  7. Katy

I tried Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Eye Cream but I did not see any difference. This product was very rich and has a beautiful texture but I was hoping it would make some difference to the wrinkles around my eyes and dark spots.

  8. Stephanie

I like Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream but I wish it was more hydrating as I find my eyes are still flaky. And yes, they should definitely make an eye cream with spf as most sunblocks cause my eyes to get very watery.

  9. Kitty

What about a dark circle eye cream for puffiness and wrinkles? I’ve heard the best eye cream is lumiere eye cream but I am not sure where to buy it. I have heavy dark circles, wrinkles and puffiness that just does not look good. It doest matter what time I sleep or how many hours sleep I get I just cant seem to get rid of these dark circles? What is the best eye wrinkle cream girls or am I just wasting my time with skin care?

  10. Dis

Can you recommend an eye cream that contains retinol, retin a or a similar vitamin a derivative?
I use retinol from skinceauticals and it makes my skin look puffy and thick the next morning which has a similar effect to a heavy person but when I apply this product to my eyes it just causes the inside of my eyes to go read. I mean the skin around the eyes look good but the problem is the eyes themselves. it looks like I had too many drinks of alcohol. Are there any safer eye products I should be using?

  11. Andy

Absolution Le Soin Regard Eye Cream is the best organic eye cream you will find anywhere. The cream lists the percentage of certified organic ingredients – the only skin care products brand I have seen that does this. I appreciate their moisturisers as well. Absolutely Devine. Highly recommended. Good value for money. From memory the eye cream was like $25.

  12. Mikes

The best eye cream is definitely the Laura Mercier Repair Eye Cream. I’ve been using it under concealer for dark circles and making the frame look thinner. Don’t use something overly drying or firming but hydrating when your using concealer. Also dab on as little as possible and layer instead so the aim is to put as little on as possible. These eye cream reviews are helpful, thank you. I might try the few above.

  13. Sarah

I like the thicker eye creams as my eyes can get very dry. My absolute favorite is a cream named Absolule from a skin care brand called Lancôme. It is very good for fragile eyes and extremely hydrating. I use it day, afternoon and night and it helps me hide my wrinkles and dark circles. I’ve tried a lot of these different creams and this is really the best one. There is also a cream from SKII that is very hydrating but the texture is not as viscous. These creams are very expensive but worth it if you have dry eyes.

  14. SweeterShaz

There are lots of eye creams with SPF, I think they use a lighter SPF around the eyes so it doesnt cause the eyes to swell up. I think there are a few on the Sephora store or even just go to Walmart and they have the fast ones.

  15. Hilda

I am looking for some feedback on what type of eye cream might contain a SPF without causing irritation. I’m asking because when I was in Asia last year I noticed this was a big thing. Wouldn’t this be a way to prevent dark circles? Doesn’t the sun cause pigmentation and then give the appearance of dark circles? Why don’t US made products contain SPF like their asian counterparts? Is it because they have a greater whitening culture? I mean I’m all for a tan but not around my eyes, especially when it is going to give the impression of dark circles.

  16. NGGIRL

    Hi there
I would like to rate my four favourite eye creams. I love these products and use the different types depending on the day and my need.
La Mer ‘The Eye Concentrate’ – This eye cream is a must for winter as my skin is dehydrated.
Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector for dark circles and in the morning
Caudalie Vinoperfect Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum for eye wrinkles
SK-II Stempower when I want to indulge.
    Hope you agree.

  17. Michelle

Thanks for taking the time to provide the reviews of the different eye creams. I was wondering if you can write a review on products for Dark Circles. I have used all the different products and even been to my dermatologist and I have seen only things worsen. I understand that dark circles are difficult to treat and I am not looking for a miracle but a product that can reduce them over time. Please let me know if you have found anything that might be useful as I don’t want to have surgery done. I live in Seattle but can travel if required. What is the best eye cream for dark circles? Help…

  18. Isabella

I need to share my eye cream review. I have also tried many products and failed. A friend of mine recommended a eye product calledN eocutis Lumière Bio-Restorative. It has Caffeine and it constricts the blood vessels so dark circles don’t disappear. I think it works like the cream that they used on Miss Congeniality but obviously safer and more gentle. What I wanted to ask is can I use this product long term with no adverse reacion to my eyes? It works, my eyes look good and I don’t look tired but I’m worried about longer term damage. You can buy the product from Dr. Proffer who is in Amarillo, Texas or online but I see him anyway to have laser done.

As a dermatologist I am constantly asked this question and many of my clients have come to me concerned about wrinkles and sagging around their eyes. Seeing as though your mother is 49 the wrinkles are beginning to become quite noticeable arent they? You are going to want a cream that is going to rejuvenate her aged skin cells and put more elasticity and youth back into her skin. I work in this area and I actually recommend you use a new treatment that I have only began to tell my clients. It contains a wide range of natural ingredients which is vital for keeping skin complexion and its best possible appearance. It also contains Acai berry one of natures true super foods which actually has 25 times more anti oxidants then blueberries which are considered high. You also mention that your budget is $50, you can actually get this product entirely free for your first trial and they will deliver it straight to your door no matter where you live. My clients have found their service terrific and the results are at a worldwide standard. I’ve organised a free trial for you which you can get from the url below
